Frosch wins motocross title
Ryan Steele - NewsPress
By the time Jessica Frosch was six years old, she was already riding a motorcycle.
The bike was a gift from her father — who was once a motocross competitor — and a couple of years ago, Frosch decided to follow in his footsteps.
In 2005, Jessica joined the Oklahoma State Championship Series and in ’06, she finished with the third-highest point total in the women’s division. She earned second-place honors a year ago, and this season she racked up 183 points — which clinched the overall championship title.
“It was just natural for her,” said Laura Frosch, Jessica’s mother. “She really loves it.”
Jessica’s motocross season runs from February to July and includes statewide traveling.
She recently participated in the Ponca City Nationals and the Loretta Lynn Nationals, and in addition to the women’s division, she has also competed in the boys’ beginner class and the men’s beginner class.
The ages in those divisions range from 13-30 — and Jessica has held her own.
“It’s all about the adrenaline rush,” Jessica said. “It’s fun to be out there. It’s pretty much my life.”
When Jessica, a member of the Women’s Motocross Association, began racing competitively in ’05, she said there were about five or six girls taking part in motocross events. These days, that number ranges from 15-20 at each competition.
“There’s a lot more girls (involved) than you’d think, but there’s not too many from Oklahoma,” Jessica said. “It’s definitely gotten bigger and a lot more fun.”
Jessica, 18, graduated from Stillwater High in May and will be attending the Northern Oklahoma College branch in Stillwater in the fall. She plans to earn her associate’s degree in business administration, then attend the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Fla., with her brother.
“We’ll both get in the mechanic side of the business, and then hopefully open our own business somewhere,” Jessica said.
Jessica — who plans to compete in OSCS again in 2009 and is in the process of finding a trainer and local sponsorship — will be recognized for her championship effort during an awards banquet later in the year at a time and site yet to be determined.
