OU player charged with petty larceny

Christopher Shelton

Jenna Plumley, a former Frontier High girls’ basketball player, was arrested Monday in Norman on suspicion of petty larceny.

Plumley, a junior point guard on the University of Oklahoma women’s basketball team, was arrested shortly before noon at a Norman Wal-Mart, 601 12th Ave. NE., according to the Norman police incident log, The Oklahoman reported.

Norman Officer Jennifer Newell said Plumley, 20, was accused of trying to steal makeup and other items, valuing about $34, according to The Oklahoman.

Newell said a Wal-Mart theft prevention officer made the arrest, and then a Norman officer was called to pick up the Wal-Mart employee’s paperwork for the municipal charge, according to The Oklahoman. Plumley was allowed to go after signing her ticket.

“Coach (Sherri) Coale is aware of the situation, and the matter will be handled internally,” wrote Jared Thompson, OU women’s basketball media contact, in an e-mail. “The University of Oklahoma has no other comment.”

Multiple calls and voicemails to the Norman Police Department’s Public Information Office were not returned.

An attempt to reach Plumley was unsuccessful.

Plumley, a four-time NewsPress Area Player of the Year who earned All-State honors during her senior year, led FHS to a pair of Class A state championships in 2003 and ’05.

During her final season, Plumley averaged 24.3 points, 8.3 assists and six steals and led the Lady Mustangs to the state semifinals.

She started all 31 games for OU last season, averaging 7.8 points, 3.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 33 percent field goal shooting. She led the Sooners in three-pointers made and attempted, shooting 64-of-202.
