The SCC MGA is taking names for the annual team match play tournament and the deadline for entry is July 26. There are 20 teams already registered and there will be two division of play — the open division where teams will play from scratch and a handicap division from SCC registry.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, the MGA will hold an A-B-C-D shambles tournament with four-man teams being picked by the computer system. Mark down a hole-in-one for 13-year-old Taylor Watkins, who aced the 157-yard, par-three ninth hole.

Taylor was playing in a threesome that included his dad, Chad, and grandfather, Eddie. Taylor is the great grandson of Jim and Beverly Arneson. They had a couples scramble tournament on the Fourth of July.

The first flight was won by Alan and Jenifer Bonner followed by Jim Davis and Annette Flaming, Gary and Sheila Schnacke and Jeff and Stacia Scott. Second flight’s winning team was Jim and Kathy Choate and then came David and Claudette Lamb, Jim and Irma Walsh and Steve and Judy O’Neil.

The SCC WGA played a “low net” format last week and in the 18-hole championship flight, Ann Watkins was the winner while in the President’s flight, there was a three-way tie for first — Jo Claire Pink, Sharon Westerman and Patty Keys — with Mary Morwood second and Susan Blake third.

Maria Sorrentino won ‘A’ flight and Theresa Brennan won ‘B’ flight with Nancy Patton and Phyllis Lambert tying for second.

At the Shawnee Country Club’s “Jack and Jill” Tournament last week, SCC members Annette and Steve Flaming teamed up to shoot a nine-under-par 133 and capture first place.

The Sudden Links Monday Shootout had another good turnout. The winning foursome was composed of R.L. Beaty, Carolyn Martin, James Hamilton and Zach Stenzel while the second place team included Bob Schreiber, Chick Martin, Lew Phillips and Jimmy Daggs.

Third place was won by the team of Dennis Linnert, John Chatburn, Charlotte Chatburn and Kody Lewis. Members are reminded that MGA players start their annual match play championship Monday. Check the pro shop today for the first-round pairings.
