LANGSTON — After leading Langston to an 84-12 record throughout the past three seasons, head coach Donnita Drain will take her coaching talents to a higher level.
Drain has accepted the head women’s basketball coaching position at Grambling State, an NCAA Division-I program and member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Drain, who coached at LU for 13 seasons, leaves as the all-time winningest coach in Lady Lion history.
Drain led the Lady Lions to nine consecutive winning seasons — including this year’s 31-2 performance — as well as six NAIA national tournament appearances and two conference championships.
Drain, a Taloga native, coached more than 45 players to All-American, Academic All-American, All-Conference, or Conference Player of the Year honors.
She has twice been named the Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association NAIA Region III Coach of the Year. Drain was inducted into the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Athletic Hall of Fame in January of 1998.
GSU finished 2-26 overall last season and 1-17 in SWAC play.
