Fall brings new programs to Senior Citizens’ Center

As autumn weather makes its entrance tomorrow, the seniors will be preparing for a fun and exciting October. Starting in October, we will have a new line dancing class, book club will continue, advisory board officer elections will take place, Homecall will give flu shots and Stillwater Senior Activities Center will once again try to keep the traveling trophy at the pool tourney against Ponca City. Other activities that will be ongoing include, exercise classes, afternoon games, craft classes, movie night and music night. The Tuesday movie “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,” will show at 5:30. For more information on classes and activities or to pick up a September/October calendar, call 747-8080 or stop by 1015 E. 12th.

Wednesday morning, the lady pool players huddled around pool tables as they practiced their shots. Ceramics class started back up after a short break and worked on a vase and Raggedy Ann and Andy. There were tables of dominoes and canasta in the afternoon as participants gathered to share stories with one another. Computer students are becoming savvier as they learn how to maximize their searches on the Internet. Yoga practice was a deep session of asanas to enhance and restore energy in the body and to invigorate the body mind connection. Practice included sitting meditation.

Sit n’ fitters appeared bright and cheery Thursday morning as they prepared their bodies for the day with a slow and steady exercise routine. Folks filled the center and gathered around tables for games of canasta, dominoes and billiards in the afternoon. As colder weather has begun to set in, seniors used the treadmill for their daily exercise. Computer class gathered in the afternoon to learn how to personalize their own computers. The evening brought participants from all over to play their instruments and sing out as others listened to their joyful tunes.

Friday morning, lady pool players teamed up for exciting rounds of competition. Crafters gathered to work on quilting, painting and other projects. In the afternoon, the birthday luncheon was a big success as seniors enjoyed the vocal stylings of 30 Stillwater High students. Following the luncheon, seniors stayed to play dominoes, pitch, snooker and canasta. Computer students are learning how to create and delete files.

Monday morning, seniors started their week off with driving classes, ladies’ pool, oil painting and book club. Seniors enjoyed a delightful afternoon as they played bridge, dominoes and canasta. The winners of social bridge were reported as Marge Reynolds, first and Wally Reynolds, second. Computer students learned how to do an advanced search on the Internet. Yoga practice was a satisfying session of asanas to release tension and open energy flow throughout the body. Practice included sitting meditation.

Sit n’ fit participants could be found getting in shape as they marched around the room and lifted their arms and legs to limber the muscles. Line dancers practiced the “Honky Tonk Stomp.” The afternoon folks played snooker, pool, canasta, dominoes, phase 10 and golf. Winners reported for Duplicate Bridge were Terry Miller/ Camille Johnston, first, Jerry Koelsch/ Treca Adams, second and Charles Foreman/ Ken Lane, third. In the evening, movie enthusiasts enjoyed watching “December Boys.”
