Seniors gear up for AARP driving classes
This week, seniors will have the opportunity to enhance their driving abilities by attending the AARP Driving Classes Monday and Tuesday. Also, the book club will be meeting Monday.
Other activities include table games every afternoon in addition to bingo and music night on Thursday. The Tuesday movie “December Boys,” will show at 5:30. For more information on classes and activities or to pick up an September calendar, call 747-8080 or stop by 1015 E. 12th.
Wednesday morning, the lady pool players huddled around the billiards tables and took aim in light hearted competition. There were tables of dominoes, canasta and puzzles as participants shared stories with one another from the “good ol’ days.” Computer students attended an enlightening session in the afternoon where they learned how to navigate various computer programs.
Sit n’ fitters arrived Thursday morning ready for an energizing workout. The center was a buzz in the afternoon as seniors played rounds of billiards, dominoes, canasta and worked on jigsaw puzzles.
Computer class gathered in the afternoon to sharpen their computer skills. The evening brought participants from all over to play their instruments and sing out as others listened to their joyful tunes.
Friday morning, lady pool players could be found smacking the balls into the pockets as they teamed up for friendly rounds of 8-ball. Crafters gathered to work on various projects and share ideas with others. Computer students learned how to personalize their own computers and save files. The afternoon folks enjoyed rounds of dominoes, canasta, pool, snooker, pitch and puzzles.
Monday morning, seniors showed up bright and early to start their week with billiards, oil painting and China painting. Computer students learned how to retrieve lost files. Sounds of cards shuffling and dominoes clanking filled the center as folks played canasta and dominoes. The winners of social bridge were reported as Edith Fleming, first and Virginia Lewis, second. Yoga practice was a quiet session of asanas to revitalize and balance the body and mind. Practice included sitting meditation.
Sit n’ fit participants marched their way to fitness and limbered their bodies with arm and leg stretches. The afternoon brought folks down to the center for games of pitch, canasta, dominoes and billiards. Winners reported for Duplicate Bridge were Joan/ Bernie Roesler, first, Terry Miller/ Camille Johnston, second and Charles Foreman/ Ken Lane, third. In the evening, movie enthusiasts enjoyed watching “Nim’s Island.”
