Seniors gear up for September, new activities

The Stillwater Senior Activities Center will be closed Monday. Participants will be back on Tuesday for exercises and games followed by the movie “21,” at 5:30. Ladies’ pool will be Wednesday morning with games to follow. Thursday, there will be afternoon games and music night at 6 and Friday, seniors will meet for crafts and games. Other events coming this month are ceramics classes, AARP driving classes, book club and blood pressure checks. Wednesday morning, a lively group of ladies teamed up for rounds of 8-ball. The afternoon participants enjoyed playing snooker, pool, dominoes, canasta and doing puzzles with good friends. Yoga practice was a session of deeply opening asanas accompanied by pranayama, conscious breathing. Practice included sitting meditation.

Sit n’ fitters showed up Thursday morning ready to energize their bodies with a series of exercises. Line dancers enjoy keeping in rhythm with the music as they dance their way to fitness. The center was full as voices floated through the air and seniors played billiards, bingo, dominoes, canasta and bridge. The evening brought participants from all over to play their instruments and sing out as others listened to their joyful tunes.

Friday morning brought the lady pool players to the center for rounds of pool while crafters gathered to work on various projects. The afternoon found participants enjoying rounds of dominoes, canasta, Texas Hold’em and puzzles. The winner of Texas Hold’em was Bud Moats.

Ladies’ pool was exciting Monday morning as they partnered up for heavy competition while sharing old stories. Oil painters brushed beautiful and delicate strokes on various pieces of art. In the afternoon, the cards shuffled and dominoes clanked as seniors played canasta and dominoes. The winners of Social Bridge were reported as Paul Gilbert, first and Orlean Hunter, second. Yoga practice was a session of steady progression through asanas to open energy flow in the body and quiet the mind. Practice included sitting meditation.

Sit n’ fit participants could be found keeping their bodies limber Tuesday morning with slow and steady exercises. Line dancers boot scooted their way to fitness. In the afternoon, seniors played canasta, pitch, dominoes and billiards. Winners reported for Duplicate Bridge were Betsy Baldwin/ Teresa Tanner, first, Joan/ Bernie Roesler, second and Patricia Logan/ Don Lorett, third. In the evening, movie enthusiasts enjoyed watching “Greener Mountains.”
