Evening Yoga and Line Dancing classes continue in the center. The Tuesday movie “August Rush” begins at 5:30 p.m. For more information on classes and activities or to pick up a June calendar, call 747-8080 or stop by 1015 E. 12th.
Lady pool players showed up in the center Wednesday morning with smiles on their faces and billiards on their minds. While the pool players were competing in rounds of billiards, the ceramics class painted piggy banks. Participants gathered with friends in the afternoon to play dominoes, pool and canasta. Thursday morning sit n’ fit folks practiced different posture and breathing techniques to maintain their youthful lifestyles. Line dancing practice included a toe tapping routine as participants kept up with the beat of the music. Seniors attended the center in the afternoon to play dominoes, snooker, canasta, pool and bingo while others were busy at the puzzle table. In the evening, musicians played their instruments while vocalists sang out joyfully to the crowd.
A lively group of ladies met Friday morning for competitive rounds of 8-ball while crafters met to work on various pieces of art and share their ideas with one another. At noon, the center was a buzz as seniors gathered for the monthly birthday luncheon followed by an afternoon of dominoes, pool, canasta, pitch and Texas hold’em. The winner of the Texas hold’em was reported as Mert Wyatt. Monday morning, the lady pool players gathered around the pool tables and teamed up for friendly competition. China and oil painters brushed intricate details on their ornate pieces of art. In the afternoon hours, sounds of cards shuffling and dominoes clanking filled the center as folks enjoyed rounds of dominoes and canasta. Computer class participants continue learning how to use the Internet and Microsoft office programs. The winners of Social Bridge were reported as DeLoris Sanders, first and Ernie Fitch, second. Yoga practice was a quiet session of asanas to enhance energy flow and range of motion and to improve balance. Practice included sitting meditation.
Sit n’ Fitters followed a routine Tuesday morning that focused on increasing strength while using resistance bands and performing stretches. Line dancing practice continues to be a popular event amongst participants in the center as it is a unique way to exercise and stay in shape. The afternoon folks played dominoes, canasta and pool while they visited with good friends. Duplicate bridge winners were M. Hadi/ A. Gholson, first; Betty Abenante/ Murna Raff, second and Linda Stone/ Ken Lane, third. In the evening, movie enthusiasts could be found laughing as they enjoyed watching “The Bucket List.” Tuesday evening line dancers moved to the beat of “The Bartenders Stomp” and “Cotton-Eyed-Joe.”
