Activities in the City of Stillwater’s Senior Activities Center this week include driving classes on Wednesday and Thursday and Special Olympics volunteering on Wednesday evening.
On Tuesday, the movie is “The Golden Compass” at 5:30 p.m. The May activities calendar is out with more planned activities. For more information, call 747-8080 or stop by 1015 E. 12th.
Wednesday morning, the lady pool players could be found smacking balls into the pockets and competing for first place.
The ceramics class cleaned frogs and mushrooms while another group glazed pigs. Seniors gathered around the game tables to play dominoes, canasta and skipbo while others worked on jigsaw puzzles. Computer classes learned how to burn a CD and DVD for data storage and movie playback.
Yoga practice was a fluid progression of asanas to open and awaken energy flow in the body and included sitting meditation.
Sit n’ Fitters moved about to limber the joints and muscles to enhance mobility. Line dance practice continues to offer a fun and exciting way to stay healthy and active. Folks busied themselves with an afternoon of pool, dominoes, rummikube, jigsaw puzzles, canasta and sequence. In the evening, musicians played joyful tunes while listeners tapped their toes to the beat.
Friday morning, ladies paired up to play rounds of pool while they enjoyed a morning of fellowship. Crafters shared Friday morning with friends as they worked on finishing projects and getting ideas for new ones. The afternoon folks kept busy playing rounds of canasta, pitch and dominoes. Computer students finished learning about recovering and erasing files then started the lesson on personalizing the computer.
Saturday participants enjoyed an afternoon of pool and Texas Hold’em. The winner of Texas Hold’em was Don Lorett.
Monday, lady pool players enjoyed a morning of fellowship and camaraderie while playing rounds of billiards. Oil painters continue to brush intricate details on attractive pieces of art. Seniors gathered for an afternoon of dominoes, pool and puzzles.
Computer classes learned about adding and removing favorite programs and word processing. Winners of social bridge were DeLoris Sanders, first, and June Cramer, second. Yoga practice was a quiet restorative session of asanas to open the body and enhance energy flow. Practice included sitting meditation.
Sit n’ Fitters energized their bodies with arm and leg motions also designed to increase stability and coordination. Line dancers continue to stay active with steady robust movements while staying in rhythm as the music played. In the afternoon, the center was full of voices and laughter as seniors gathered around the tables for canasta, dominoes and pool.
Duplicate bridge winners were Betty Abenante/ Murna Raff, first; Terry Miller/ Donna Beason, second and Don Lorett/ Patricia Logan, third.
In the evening, movie goers enjoyed watching “Charlie Wilson’s War.”
