Meridian CEO pact approved

During a special meeting Wednesday, the Meridian Technology Center Board of Education approved an employment contract with Dr. Doug Major, who had previously been named to become the school’s new superintendent/CEO. The contract established Major’s start date at Meridian as Nov. 1 and runs through June 30.

Major is superintendent/CEO at Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City, a position he has held since 2000. His employment at Meridian will mark his return to the school where he had worked in various capacities for 12 years before making the move to Pioneer.

The Board also voted to end Dr. John Howell’s temporary appointment as interim superintendent effective Oct. 31. Howell, who has been assistant superintendent at Meridian, was appointed to the interim position when Dr. Andrea Kelly resigned in June 2008.

In other action, the board approved the fiscal year 2009 estimate of needs for the Meridian district. This approval sets in motion the processes required to establish the school’s basis for ad valorem funding for the 2009 fiscal year.
