The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has completed construction of a new meeting house that will serve nearly 3,400 of its members who reside in Stillwater, Perkins, Perry, Ripley and nearby communities.
To celebrate the opening, local Latter-day Saints are preparing an open house for the public May 17, with tours of the meeting house from 3 to 7 p.m. People of all ages, faiths and backgrounds are welcome.
“We’re excited to be able to show our new church building to our friends and neighbors and let them see how we worship our Savior,” says Mary Gardner, wife of Bishop Brandt C. Gardner of the Stillwater First Ward. “It’s a beautiful building that seems to be designed just for that area.”
The 16,500 square foot colonial style meeting house is constructed of red brick trimmed with white columns that complement the surrounding landscape. It consists of a chapel that seats approximately 300 people, a large “cultural hall” for sports and cultural activities during the week, 12 classrooms, a family history center and offices for local church leaders. The interior of the chapel features cherry wood trim and vaulted ceilings.
