• Friends, family, former students and fellow residents gathered at Westhaven Nursing Home on July 24 to celebrate the 90th birthday of Hiram Henry, who was longtime director of bands at Oklahoma State University.

Henry was welcomed to the party by the sounds of “Happy Birthday” played by a small band of his former students. Following the welcome, a group of 50 well-wishers shared memories of their experiences with Henry over cake and punch.

Henry’s son and daughter both traveled from out of town to join the festivities.

Originally from Claremore, Henry graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1940.

He served in U.S. Navy bands during World War II and received a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

He returned to Stillwater in 1946 to become director of the OAMC Girls’ Band and took on marching band duties as well. He became director of bands in 1957 and held the position until he retired from the university in 1981.

Also a past conductor of the Stillwater Community Band, Henry is a member of the Hall of Fame of both the Oklahoma Music Educators Association and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service to Music Medal awarded by Kappa Kappa Psi, the National Honorary Band Fraternity.

Since his retirement, he has been active with Meals on Wheels and as a volunteer at Stillwater Medical Center.

He is a member of the Kiwanis Club and First Presbyterian Church.

Henry was named Stillwater’s Citizen of the Year by the Rotary Club of Stillwater in 2004.



• Dr. Amanda Anne Horn graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine on May 31.

She was awarded The Children’s Medical Research Institute Award in Pediatrics as the senior student who best exemplified the ideal doctor-patient relationship with children.

The ceremony took place in the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City.

Horn is now pursuing a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

She graduated from Stillwater High School in 2000 and from Oklahoma State University in 2004.

She is the daughter of Gerald and Christina Horn.



• Steven Klatt-Lasso and Bramwell Lambrus, both of Stillwater, have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Klatt-Lasso is a graduate of Stillwater High School and a student in the university’s school of engineering and applied science.

Lambrus is a graduate of Stillwater High School and is enrolled in the university’s College of Arts and Sciences.
