Sleepless, stormy nights

From April 7 to April 11, there were many local government employees who were not sleeping.
With heavy thunderstorms, a little hail and lots of localized flooding, emergency managers, first responders and road crews were busy — sometimes 24 hours without break — trying to make sure you could go about your daily business with the least amount of interruption to your routine as possible.
Emergency managers were up nights watching as storms developed and checking the area after storms passed though; first responders were helping people stranded by rising water and closing roads too hazardous for motorists; city and county road crews were clearing debris and making repairs as fast as they could.
These are the people few of us give any consideration too until something gores wrong. That is when we see how important they are to the normal operation of our communities.
Hopefully, most of those tired people caught up on their sleep in the past week, because we will certainly need them again.
