Oklahoma State/Houston Notebook

New endzone seating

A sea of orange greeted the Cowboys from the west Saturday evening.

Against Houston, Oklahoma State played its first game in Boone Pickens Stadium with the new seating in the west endzone filled. Saturday’s attendance was 45,001.

“What a beautiful stadium,” coach Mike Gundy said. “It’s really, really amazing to me. And to see all that orange in the west endzone — wow. It was loud in there. It just makes us proud as a staff, as a team and especially as a graduate and ex-player here to see the difference.”

Junior quarterback Zac Robinson agreed.

“It was awesome,” he said. “It was great to see that west end zone packed. Everybody was excited to play in front of the home crowd, and it definitely lived up to the expectations.”

Woods downed

Sophomore receiver Artrell Woods injured his leg during Saturday’s contest against Houston.

Co-offensive coordinator Trooper Taylor declined to comment on the severity of the injury until the trainers had a chance to check him out. But he did say it worried him initially.

“When Artrell went down again, after all the stuff he’s been through already, my heart skipped a beat because he’s such a great kid, and the first thing in his mind is ‘Why me?’” Taylor said.

Taylor added that Woods, too, didn’t know how serious the injury was but knew the importance of moving the game along and getting another player out there in his place.

“We just wanted to protect him during that time in the game,” Taylor said.

Antoine out for season

Junior defensive back Lucien Antoine tore an ACL in Saturday’s game and will be out for the rest of the year.

Gundy said a few other players came out of the game but with only minor injuries and will be fine in a few days.
