Oklahoma State Notebook 05-14-08

More hardware for OSU’s No. 1
Sophomore Oleksandr Nedovyesov was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the Central Region’s Player to Watch.
According to the ITA, the Player to Watch Award goes to a player who has an outstanding season and is expected to perform at a high level the rest of his career. This award’s criteria also include a player’s sportsmanship and character.
This season, Nedovyesov captured the Big 12 title at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles on his way to being named the conference’s player of the year. During the conference regular season, he went 5-1 in singles play, while he and teammate Nathan Byrnes finished 6-0 in doubles play.
It is Nedovyesov’s third ITA postseason award. As a freshman last season, the Alushta, Ukraine, native was also named the Central Region Player to Watch, as well as the Central Region Rookie of the Year.
The Cowboys face Southern California in the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16 on Friday at 6 p.m. in Tulsa.

O-State was represented by seven first-team student-athletes on the men’s side and 11 first-team and two second-team student-athletes on the women’s side of the Big 12 Track and Field All-Academic squads.

New title for Calcagno
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Gary Calcagno, Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at O-State, has been named Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA). This honor is the highest given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession, and the ceremony is undoubtedly the highlight of the association’s National Conference each year. Master Strength and Conditioning Coach Rob Glass, also from OSU, presented Calcagno with the blue MSCC Jacket on May 8.
