Central Regional for Poke golfers

INDIANAPOLIS — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team will compete in the NCAA Central Regional, May 15-17 in Columbus, Ohio.

The Cowboys, who earned an automatic berth with their victory at the Big 12 Championship last month, have competed in the Central Regional every year since the inception of the current format in 1989. During that span, OSU has won six regional titles and produced five individual medalists at the event.

The Cowboys last won the tournament in 2006 at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio. That same year also resulted in the school’s most recent regional medalist in Jonathan Moore.

Currently ranked fifth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, OSU will be the No. 2 seed in this year’s field behind top-ranked Alabama. In addition to their conference title, the Cowboys also own a win at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational and have the top-ranked player in the country in freshman Rickie Fowler.

O-State and the rest of the 27-team field will compete at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course in Columbus with the top 10 teams and two individuals on non-qualifying teams advancing to the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 28-31 at Purdue’s Kampen Course.

Prior to regional play, the Cowboys will be in search of their seventh consecutive title at The Maxwell in Ardmore this weekend at Dornick Hills Country Club.
