OU wins — hooray!
Normally a scoring update that shows Oklahoma winning draws boos at Boone Pickens Stadium. On Saturday, a cheer rang out from the many Nebraska fans in attendance when the update showed OU had beaten Missouri came up. NU is contending with the Tigers for the Big 12 North title.
One point — hooray!
One of the biggest cheers of the game came when kicker Jason Ricks made an extra point at the 4:13 mark in the second quarter. His first PAT had been blocked and the Cowboys missed two in last weekend’s 34-33 overtime loss to No. 23 Texas A&M. In that game, Ricks didn’t even get a kick off on the first extra point because of a bad snap and his attempt in overtime was blocked, ending the game.
The man, the legend
Former OSU and Detroit Lions standout Barry Sanders was in attendance Saturday. Sanders, the 1988 Heisman Trophy winner, holds the Cowboys’ single-season rushing record with 2,628 yards. He also led the NFL in rushing in 1990, ‘94, ‘96 and ‘97, and recorded 15,269 career yards during his 10-year professional career.
Lesson learned
True freshman tailback Keith Toston, who fumbled twice in his first starting appearance against Kansas two weeks ago, was benched last week against the Aggies. Saturday, it looked like Toston learned from his mistakes as he had eight carries for 68 yards — and no fumbles.
Maybe get him the ball more
Dating back to the Kansas game, receiver Adarius Bowman has scored touchdowns on six of his last nine catches.
Bowman finished Saturday’s game with three receptions for 86 yards, including a 45-yard score.
Notables...
The Cowboys have won two of their last three games against ranked opponents in Stillwater. They lost to A&M last weekend and upset No. 13 Texas Tech on Nov. 12, 2005 ... This marked the second-most points OSU has ever scored against Nebraska. The highest was in 1988, when the Mike Gundy-led Cowboys totaled 42 ... OSU rushed for a season-high 267 yards ... Senior receiver D’Juan Woods, who finished with four catches for 87 yards, now has a 29-game receptions streak ... Sophomore quarterback Bobby Reid recorded a career-long 56-yard run.
