OSU Botanical Garden News 09-21-08

Larry Jones

Although this year’s gardening season is winding down, there’s still a lot of activity related to the gardens going on.

The week of Sept. 8, there were several groups out for tours. Early in the week, there was a group from Midwest City. Near midweek, the Grady County Extension Homemakers toured, and near the end of the week, a group of Oklahoma County Master Gardeners were up for a tour.

All total, about 125 people toured the garden that week. This week, the Botanical Garden staff put together Volume 1, Issue 1 of what is intended to be a weekly newsletter called “Botanical Business” and they did a fantastic job!

In the newsletter, Kim Rebek, the host of the Oklahoma Gardening television show, reported that she and videographer Kevin Gragg are going to Portland, Ore., for this year’s Garden Writers’ Association Conference.

The conference was in Oklahoma City last year and is annually a great conference. Work continues on the entrance into the garden off Highway 51, or West Sixth Street, and plans are progressing for the walking trail that will start at the theme gardens and go south to near the new entrance before going east and looping back to the theme gardens. It’s not too late to go out for a tour. The gardens still look great.
