Stillwater’s Cockrell named Top 20 freshman male
Shepard Cockrell of Stillwater has been named a Top Twenty Freshman Man at Oklahoma State University.
Selection of students now in their sophomore year at OSU is based on scholarship, community service, campus involvement and outstanding leadership from their freshman year.
Cockrell will now continue through the interview process from which the Top Ten Freshman Men will be selected. Mortar Board is responsible for choosing students for the Top Freshman Women and the Top Ten Freshman Men.
Cockrell is the son of David and Cherry Cockrell and is a 2007 graduate of Stillwater High School.
He is an active participant in OSU’s Honor College and was selected for the President’s Leadership Council, the Freshman Representative Council and Phi Eta Sigma honor society. He has been active in the Arts and Sciences Student Council and the OSU Student Foundation and is an Honors College Ambassador. Among the scholarships he has received are a four-year OSU Academic Excellence Scholarship, a four-year OSU President’s Distinguished Scholarship, and an Arts and Sciences Student Council Scholastic Scholarship.
Also named to the Top Twenty Freshman Men were Justin Dvorak, Ry Fleming and Justin G. Ladd of Perry.
Dvorak, an animal science major, is the son of Scott and Carol Dvorak of Perry. He is a 2007 graduate of Perry High.
He was elected assistant treasurer of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Student Council and treasurer of the Meat Science Association.
Fleming, an economics major, is the son of Dave and Leslie Fleming of Perry. He is a 2007 graduate of PHS. He is an active participant in OSU’s Honor College, was selected for the Freshman Representative Council, was named to Phi Eta Sigma honor society and has been active as a Greek Ambassador and in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Freshman Council.
Ladd, an agribusiness major, is the son of Jay and Rhonda Ladd of Perry. He is a 2007 graduate of Morrison High School.
He is an active participant in OSU’s Honor College, was selected for the President’s Leadership Council and the Freshman Representative Council and was named to Phi Eta Sigma honor society.
He served as a freshman representative for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and was active in Collegiate FFA. Among the scholarships he has received are a four-year OSU Academic Excellence Scholarship, a Long’s 4-H and FFA Achievement Scholarship, a Fastline Scholarship and a Community Education Association Scholarship.
The Top Ten Freshman Men and Women will be formally recognized, along with their families, during a ceremony on Sept.13 in the Willard Living Room on the OSU campus, and later in the day during a ceremony at the OSU football game.
