OSU hosts speakers on sustainability

Everett Brazil III

The Society of Environmental Sciences, a graduate student organization at Oklahoma State University, will begin hosting a series of 10 speakers Thursday, discussing environmental sustainability.

Randy Veitenheimer, an author and speaker, offers insights into sustainability in health and wellness.

Through his consulting firm, Creative Energetic Health, he brings together many disciplines, including quantum physics, Native American medicine, Chinese martial arts, Yogic philosophy and Ayurvedic and traditional medicine, to educate listeners about “being your authentic self, why business must be conducted with a green philosophy, and what you can do to move yourself and the world toward sustainability,” according to the organization.

“I delicately try to remind people, sustainability isn't really an option; the opposite is pretty grim. It's time we looked at our unsustainable habits and lifestyles and rethink how to live both prosperously and sustainably,” Jane Talkington, president of the student organization, said in a press release.

Veitenheimer will speak Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the case study rooms on the fourth floor of the OSU Student Union.

Other speakers will include:

Aug. 26: Dr. Will Focht, director of the OSU Environmental Science graduate program;

Sept. 11: Robert Waldrop from the Oklahoma Food Cooperative;

Sept. 16: Dr. Riley Dunlap, an OSU sociology professor;

Sept. 23: Dr. Gordon Emslie, the dean of the OSU graduate college and an OSU physics professor;

Oct. 9: Dr. Beth Caniglia, an OSU sociology professor;

Nov. 6: Seneca Scott, of Tulsa Biofuels, will be speaking in the browsing room on the second floor of the Edmon Low Library at OSU;

Nov. 13: Mary Madden, an American Institute of Certified Planners urban planner;

Nov. 20: Harlan Hentges, an Edmond attorney;

Nov. 26: Dr. Nizam Najd, an OSU Management Information Systems professor.
