Mike Pierson is enthusiastic, young and hoping to make some changes.
The 21-year-old Oklahoma State University student has declared his intent to run for Oklahoma House of Representatives District 33. The position is held by Rep. Lee Denney, R-Cushing, but Pierson, a Democrat from McAlester, said he is ready for some changes.
We elect politicians to get the job done, when they fail someone from the public has to stand up for what we want, he said. I believe I have the drive, and determination to push this district forward.
Pierson said he feels some small towns in the district do not get the attention they need. The top three items on his priority list are education, health care and economic development.
Pierson said he hopes to tap into more private financing. He feels there is a lack of public funding for roads and related areas.
I can fill that void, Pierson said.
The recently-named minister of Perkins Assembly of God said his youth will be a benefit, as he will have the energy, motivation and will to go the extra mile. Im green right now, but I tell people, When things are green, they grow, he said.
