Edna Helena Slavens, 80, of Stillwater, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, in Cushing. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in Marena Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Kuhn officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on June 21, 1927, in Meridian, to Midas Benjamin Franklin Gottfried and Elsie (Jenkins) Gottfried. She married Clarence Ibed Slavens on July 9, 1945, in Stillwater. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Orvel E. Gottfried and Walter Gottfried; and three sisters, Ruby Maxine Slavens Frieda Terrill and Gert Warden.
She is survived by four sons, John Slavens and his wife, Dianna, of Stillwater, Clarence Ray Slavens and his wife, Glenda, of Glencoe, Billy Slavens and his wife, Dorothy, of Carney and Anthony Slavens and his wife, Rhonda, of Stillwater; eight daughters, Martha Cox and her husband, R.C., of Norman, Donna Fowler of Stillwater, Diana Lane of Stillwater, Joyce Bates of Stillwater, Dorothy Lindsey and her husband, Harvey, of Stillwater, Carolina Kitchel of Stillwater, Debbie Lane and her husband, George, of Perry and Betty Slavens of Stillwater; 29 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Gottfried and his wife, Ada Ruth, of Stillwater, Cecil Gottfried and his wife, Carolyn, of Stillwater, Leon Gottfried of Perry and Gene Gottfried of Perry; and two sisters, Rose Bays of Stillwater and Virginia “Ginger” Garringer of Perry.
