Devert L. Choplin

Funeral services for Mr. Devert L. Choplin, 92, former Arapaho resident, were at 4 p.m. Thursday, his 93rd birthday, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Wendell Folsom. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

Devert Lawrence Choplin was born April 17, 1915, to James Adam “Jim” and Francis Mae “Fannie” (Higgins) Choplin in Antioch and passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, in the Grace Living Center in Stillwater.

Devert was reared in the Butler area and he attended the Antioch Church where his grandfather gave the land for the church and the cemetery.

Mr. Choplin married Miss Geneva Pauline Lachman Oct. 15, 1932, in Putnam. The Choplins moved about, living in Checotah, El Reno and California and then settled back in Oklahoma on the family farm. Devert farmed and ranched as well as running a gas station, help work on the Foss Dam and he also worked at the Clinton livestock. Devert owned and operated Devert’s Fencing with his son, Troy, and retired in 2000 at the age of 85.

Devert moved his family to Arapaho in 1965 and lived there until 2005 when he moved to Clinton and on to Stillwater in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Geneva; a daughter, Virginia Fancher; a son-in-law, Gary Fancher; and a brother, Robert.

He is survived by three sons, Curtis and his wife, Jean, North Augusta, S.C., Jimmie and his wife, Joyce, Glencoe and Troy and his wife, Belinda, Glencoe. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Paula Shryock, Stillwater, Mark and wife, Debbie, Tulsa, Donna Hartshorn and husband. Bill, Orlando, Fla., Curtis “Kip” Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Baltimore, Md., Gary Fancher Jr. and his wife, Tamyra, Glencoe, Troy Jr. and his wife, Spring, Glencoe and Crystal Stephens and her husband, Royce, Orlando; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family has suggested those wishing to give memorial contributions in honor of Devert, may do so to the Judith Karman Hospice, P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076.
