Opal Marie Perry, longtime Oak Grove area resident, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 87 years.
The daughter of the late Floyd E. Sorrels Sr. and Della Cargill Sorrels, Opal was born Nov. 1, 1920, in Cushing, and was reared and educated in Oak Grove and Drumright Schools. She later attended and graduated from secretarial college.
She was united in marriage to William Marion Perry Sept. 5, 1948, on the Sorrels’ farm in Oak Grove, and to this union three children, Blake, Susan and Bruce were born. Opal worked as an executive secretary for several petroleum companies in Tulsa for much of her adult life, and she was highly valued for her skill and work ethic. In the 1960s, she was hired as executive secretary to Dan Schusterman during the formation of Samson Resources and retired from that position in the 1980s. She managed to work full time, be a great wife and raise three children. Opal was a long-time member of Nogales Avenue Baptist Church in Tulsa where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.
After retirement, Opal became a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and she really enjoyed being a part of her Sunday school class and helping out with Vacation Bible School. She liked traveling, especially to the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado, sewing, reading, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving and nurturing wife and mother, and she is powerfully missed by her kids.
Survivors include her children, Blake Perry of Oklahoma City, Bruce Perry of Long Beach, Calif. and one daughter, Susan Perry of Santa Clarita, Calif.; one brother, Floyd E. Sorrels of Drumright; cousin, Janice Winkler; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Perry, June 23, 2007.
