Ewel D. Haskins

Ewel D. Haskins, age 83, of Stillwater, formerly of Cushing, passed away late Sunday night, March 2, 2008, in Stillwater.
Services will be at 10 a.m Thursday in Mehan Union Church. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ripley. Palmer-Marler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Haskins was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Stratford, the son of the Rev. Earlin and Exie (Bevers) Haskins. He grew up in the Stratford and Ada areas. He married Wanda Neighbors July 31, 1943. In 1943, he was drafted into military service before his high school graduation and served as a medic with the 71st Infantry Division throughout Europe. Following his military service, he graduated from Vanoss High School in 1947 and attended East Central University at Ada. Following college he worked in sales all of his life. He formerly owned a car lot in Cushing and the Haskins Crème and Dog in Drumright. He also worked in Cushing for the CocaCola plant and sold cars for many years for Ace Logan Motors. He was a former member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Cushing and was presently attending Mehan Union Church. He enjoyed hunting, raised champion coon dogs, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and the rest of the family. He was proud of his grand and great grandchildren and enjoyed watching them in sports.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Stillwater; two daughters, Diana Spiva and husband, Glen, of Ripley and Deborah Barrett and husband, Bill, of Cushing; one sister, Geneva Hood of Center; seven grandchildren, Ron Spiva and wife, Jami, Brandon Spiva and wife, Amy, Sean Spiva and wife, Amy, Jennifer Bray and husband, Tim, Tristan Robnett and wife, Marie, Brandi Haskins, Mark Haskins and wife, Lourfonda; 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Ewel was preceded in death by a son, Ewel Douglas; his parents; a grandson, Riley; a sister and a brother.
