One dead in turnpike wreck

One individual is dead and six are hospitalized following a one-vehicle accident Sunday evening.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Patrick Sawyer, Troop K communications, said the accident occurred about 10:55 p.m. Sunday at mile marker 26 in the eastbound lanes of Cimarron Turnpike.

Three ambulances and a rescue unit from Stillwater Fire Department responded to the scene, in addition to two other units.

William Linsey, SFD medical officer, said six individuals were ejected from the vehicle. Everyone was transported by ambulance to Stillwater Medical Center. A medical airlift was not able to respond.

Shyla Eggers, SMC public relations, said four of the injured were later transferred from SMC to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and one was transferred to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.

Names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. OHP is investigating the accident.
