Payne County adds flood hazard areas

Payne County Commissioners approved an amendment regarding flood hazard areas to the floodplain regulations previously adopted by the Payne County Floodplain Board at their meeting Tuesday morning.

County Attorney Lowell Barto said the amendments are to list areas not already placed on the Federal Emergency Management Agency map, which identifies levels of flood risk.

“The purpose of the amendment was to add areas of special flood hazard,” Barto said. “They are just as important as the ones listed on the FEMA map.”

The Commissioners unanimously approved the changes.

In addition to that amendment, the Commissioners approved contracts for 2009 REAP Grants for community centers in the county.

Among others, Elm Grove School will recieve $12,400 to replace its roof and ceiling tiles and Cottonwood Community Center will get $985, some of which will be for new cabinets and a six-foot bench.

The Commissioners also approved a utility permit for Mehan Union Church for electricity to build onto the existing church.

The next County Commissioners meeting will be at 9 a.m. Monday in the County Administration Building, 315 W. 6th Ave.
