Kitten gets second chance

Stillwater Animal Welfare officers answered the call Friday morning when a kiiten was found to be tangled in a net in a storm drain.

Margie Miracle was walking to a local thrift shop when she called animal welfare after hearing the kitten meow from inside a storm drain at the intersection of 9th and Main.

“I believe you are always in the right place at the right time,” Miracle said.

As city utility employees lifted the sewer cover, Officers Carla Meadors and Ron Fury were at the ready to lift the entangled black female kitten to the street. Once the kitten was above ground, Meadors cut the kitten free from the net wrapped around its neck as Fury held the kitten securely.

“It’s not unheard of to be called out to these situations,” Meadors said.
