Holiday decorating can win cash prizes

Iva Lee Washington

Everyone in the Stillwater city limits can make their homes more festive for the holiday season and have a chance to win cash prizes by entering the “Holiday House Decorating Contest” sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

An entry fee of $10 will also help people in need of shoes, clothing, heating costs or help with buying gifts for their children. The Fraternal Order of Eagles’ annual holiday auction proceeds have been disbursed throughout Payne County for 17 years.

Deadline to sign up for the “Holiday House Decorating Contest” is Dec. 5. Judging will take place Dec. 9-17. Winners will be announced Dec. 20. Prize money will be given to first, second, third and honorable mention. Entrants may start decorating after Thanksgiving.

Entrants must live within Stillwater city limits, use the theme “Candyland Christmas” and have displays lighted from 6-10 p.m. All house numbers must be clearly marked.

Judges will select winners on use of theme, creativity of decorations, use of colors and use of lights and window, door or entrance decoration displays.

All entry forms and correspondence should be sent by Dec. 5 to Fraternal Order of Eagles, 409 S. Eagles Lane, Stillwater, Okla., 74074-7455, or dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce. Entry forms and rules can be picked up in the Chamber of Commerce office.
