Charges related to rural burglaries
Lynne Neveu
Payne County Assistant District Attorney Tom Lee filed charges Friday in Payne County District Court on behalf of the State of Oklahoma against Amanda J. Horner of Stillwater in relation to a string of rural burglaries.
Horner is charged with five felony counts of knowingly concealing stolen property in connection with burglaries that occurred on the northern Payne County line Oct. 7-8.
According to the initial filing, Horner was in possession of property she “knew or had reasonable cause to believe was stolen.” Items listed as being stolen property included bedding, credit cards, a lap top computer, two game stations and a wooden box containing jewelry.
Each count is punishable by up to five years in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary or one year in the Payne County Jail, a fine of up to $500, or a combination of the fine and imprisonment.
Horner is also charged with false declaration of ownership in pawn. In an Oct. 16 affidavit filed with Payne County District Court, Payne County Sheriff’s Investigator Larry Kitchel met with a burglary victim who identified a diamond pendant at a local pawn shop as being stolen from his residence.
Horner had written on the pawn ticket that she had owned the pendant for one year.
The charge is punishable by up to five years or not more than one year in county jail, a $500 fine or both.
Horner faces an additional two felony charges stemming from a Jan. 17 incident, unlawful possession of controlled drug in the presence of a child 12 years old and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Horner, 20, and Alonzo Rupp, 28, were arrested Oct. 16 and accused of breaking into several houses Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 along a 13-mile stretch at the north end of Payne County.
