Morrison Community Lions Club holding benefit auction Tuesday
Susan Brinker - NewsPress
“Going once — going twice — sold to the highest bidder.”
These familiar words will soon be heard at the annual Morrison Community Lions Club auction.
The organization invites all area residents to their benefit auction Tuesday evening. Crafts, baked goods, power tools, home and garden equipment, travel and many other fun and useful items will be auctioned to the highest bidder. All proceeds support the Morrison Community Lions Club and their charitable contributions to local and area projects.
The “Bidders Feed” begins at 6 p.m. in the Morrison High School gymnasium and cafeteria at the corner of Second and C Streets in Morrison. The event will also feature a raffle drawing for a $500 shopping spree and a silent auction for service based items such as auto details, oil changes and landscaping.
The auction begins at 7 p.m. and concludes when the final item is sold. The Morrison Community Lions Club is a charitable organization adhering to the Lions’ belief, “We Serve.” Their benefits to the community include:
• Financial assistance in support of Morrison Public Schools operations, academics, buildings, recreation facilities and grounds.
• Help purchase, install and maintain four baseball and softball fields, plus two 8-man football playing and practice fields, with lighting, bleachers, dressing rooms, parking spaces and concession stands, as needed.
• Support of the Morrison Volunteer Fire Department organization, new buildings, fire-fighting vehicles, radios and equipment.
• Support of the Morrison First Responders.
• Support Lions Eye Bank activities on the local, state, national and international basis.
• Provide Lions academic honors and scholarships for eligible Morrison students, teachers and school staff through the Morrison Community Development Association.
• Financial and physical support of the design, construction and completion of the Morrison Community Park, Morrison Community Pavilion, Morrison Arboretum and all aspects of the Morrison Community Beautification plan.
• Conduct the annual City Cleanup Project and “Morrison Spring Cleanup Day.”
• Support annual American Legion Boys State and Girls State representatives from Morrison.
• Special sponsorship of local and regional youth programs of all ages including FFA and livestock boosters, FHA, FCA, band, vocal music, cheerleading, football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts.
• Support of all Morrison churches and religious affiliations through the Ministerial Alliance.
• Support of the Morrison and Payne County American Red Cross.
• Sponsorship of the Annual Morrison Easter Egg Hunt.
• Support the IOA Boy’s Ranch near Perkins.
• Annual support of the Lions Statewide “Cowboy Cadillac and White Cane Drive.”
• Support, help, plan and conduct the Morrison Annual Community summer barbecue and social event.
• Provide eyeglasses for needy people, including additional health care, if needed.
• Supply holiday (food) gift baskets for needy families in and around Morrison.
Since its Charter in 1967, the former and active members of the Morrison Lions Club with the help of citizens from across Oklahoma have worked closely to raise and contribute, including in-kind labor, more than $300,000 in support of the local community, its many youth and health programs and school activities. At the same time, the Morrison Lions, through generosity and involvement, have faithfully supported all statewide, national and international Lions Club ongoing and special projects.
Theses are among the many Morrison Lions Club project and activities which have either been completed or are underway thanks to the generosity and support of so many citizens of Morrison, area towns and cities and more than 47 counties within the state of Oklahoma and the bordering states of Kansas, Arkansas and Texas.
The Morrison Lions Club conducts its breakfast meetings at 6:30 a.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month in the Morrison Community Pavilion, at the corner of State Highway 64 and Casey’s Trail. Guest and visitors are welcome. New members are always needed to ensure a brighter future for the community of Morrison, its youth and loyal citizens and worthy Lions activities the world over.
Those who have worked to make this evening a success include President Erich Wehrenberg, Auction Committee Co-Chairs Steve Carr and Jerry Cottom and Secretary Polly McCroskey.
