Second student arrested

Laura Wilson - NewsPress

Stillwater Police made a second arrest this morning in last week’s bomb threats at Stillwater Junior High.

They arrested a 15-year-old boy at 8:20 a.m. at Stillwater Police Department after an interview, said Capt. Ryan McCaghren. He is accused of making a hoax bomb threat Wednesday, the second consecutive day a note threatening a bomb was found at the junior high.

Bomb threat notes were found Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week. School officials evacuated students on Tuesday and Wednesday, but elected to shelter-in-place when two notes were found Thursday because they did not believe the notes presented a “credible threat,” according to Police Chief Norman McNickle.

Another 15-year-old boy was arrested Friday morning at the junior high in connection with one of the notes found Thursday. Both boys are students at the junior high.

Police are continuing to investigate the notes found and have asked that anyone with information call the department at 372-4171.

A window at the Payne County Republicans Party campaign headquarters was replaced by wood Monday after it was broken out early Sunday morning. Stillwater Police believe someone threw a rock from a passing vehicle, breaking the 12-foot-by-8-foot plate glass window, at about 1:53 a.m. Sunday, said Capt. Ryan McCaghren, adding that they have no suspects. The vandalism was discovered by a Stillwater Police officer and an OSU Police officer who were in the area at the time and heard the glass breaking, he said. Laura Wilson/ (Click for larger image)
