Payne Co. Audubon Society celebrating Nature Day Sunday at Sanborn Lake

The Payne County Audubon Society will host its annual Nature Day on Sunday at Sanborn Lake from noon to 4:30 p.m. In the event of rain, activities will be moved to the Stillwater Parks and Recreation Armory at the corner of Ninth Ave. and Lowry St.

Crystal Cork, educational coordinator for the Payne County Audubon Society, said the event is approximately 13 years old and usually several hundred people attend.

“All kinds of nature nerds come together to educate our community on the preservation and conservation of the earth,” Cork wrote in an e-mail. “We need to get our kids out from in front of the TV and video games and out exploring what mother earth has to offer.”

Exhibits and activities will include boating, fishing, nature walks, plant walks, snakes, recycling, rocks, bugs, rope tying and tree climbing.

Nature Day is free and open to the public.

Sanborn Lake is on Airport Road west of Boomer Road.

Turn left between the National Guard building and the ball fields and travel one-third mile.

The road ends at the Nature Day site.
