MTC may OK pact for CEO

Special session called to consider contract

Meridian Technology Center may approve the contract for its new CEO on Wednesday.

There will be a special MTC Board of Education meeting at noon in room A101 at the MTC, 1312 S. Sangre Road.

On the agenda is a motion to approve the 2008-9 contract for Dr. Doug Major, who was named superintendent and CEO at a special meeting Aug. 20. If approved, his contract would begin Nov. 1.

Dr. John Howell, assistant superintendent for full-time and short-term programs and career planning center, has served as interim superintendent since Dr. Andrea Kelly resigned to become superintendent of Gravette (Ark.) Public Schools on July 1. The agenda calls for a motion and vote to end his appointment as interim CEO on Oct. 31.

Another item on the agenda is discussion of, but no vote on, a proposed tax increment financing district.

Also, there will be a discussion and vote to remove a motion to approve or disapprove the Financial Year 2009 Estimate of Needs followed by a discussion and vote on the approval or disapproval of the Estimate of Needs.

Major has been superintendent/CEO of Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City since 2000. He took the job after working at MTC beginning in 1987, eventually rising to assistant superintendent for instructional programs. He was also student services director, adult short-term programs director and business and industry services director.

The former agricultural education teacher for Anadarko Public Schools has three degrees from Oklahoma State University, including his doctorate.
