City’s August rainfall total below average

The string of months with above average rainfall was snapped in August.

The Stillwater Agricultural Experiment Station recorded 1.28 inches of rain for Stillwater, well below the average of 3 inches. January was the last month previous to August that actual rainfall did not surpass the average.

For Jan. 1 through Aug. 31, total precipitation for Stillwater was 31.29 inches. The average for the first eight months of the year is 23.01 inches and the annual average is 33.09 inches.

The station reported rain on five days: Aug. 11, 0.25 inch; Aug. 12, 0.15 inch; Aug. 15, 0.56 inch; Aug. 19, 0.27 inch; and Aug. 20, 0.05 inch.

The station records rainfall from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m., and does not report daily totals on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Averages for the remaining months of 2008 are September, 3.75 inches; October, 2.89 inches; November, 2.11 inches; and December, 1.33 inches.ù
