Making new friends

• Newcomers’ Club beginning a new year of activities

Stillwater Newcomers’ Club has been in existence continuously since the 1960s to welcome people to the Stillwater community.

What started as a monthly luncheon has grown to include activities of interest to everyone who wants to meet people whether a person is new in town or finds that she now has time for new endeavors after retirement from working or newfound freedom after children are in school.

Activities include lots of eating with monthly coffees, luncheons and evenings out with spouses included. There are also many game groups such as Mexican Train and card games like canasta, bridge, hand and foot and Shanghai.

Interest groups change but also include golf, books, scrap booking and day trips around Oklahoma. A popular activity is having dinner in homes with four couples rotating homes.

It is another great way to include spouses and form friendships. As friendships evolve, many activities are added on an individual basis and before the year is out newcomers find they are running into people they know all around town.

Anyone interested in making new friends call Mrs. Bullock (564-0749) or Ms. Knox (707-0808) for information and to receive a copy of the first newsletter, listing activities available and the times and locations for the September functions.

The September luncheon will be held in Aggies Big House, 623 1/2 South Husband, at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 11. Reservation forms will be included in the first newsletter or you may call Mrs. Zaloudek (533-3366) to make reservations for the September luncheon. Deadline for reservations is Sept. 9.
