New command team takes over Salvation Army

Sgts. Robert and Lannette Daniels assumed command of the Stillwater Corps of The Salvation Army on Wednesday and were officially welcomed to the community at the advisory board luncheon.

Robert is a fourth generation Salvationist and a third generation officer. He was born in Muskegon, Mich., but traveled the world extensively as a “military brat.”

He graduated from Lawton High School and attended Cameron University in Lawton before entering the Salvation Army College for officer training in 1992. He was commissioned as a Crusader for Christ in 1994.

Lannette is a third generation Salvationist, having grown up in the Fort Smith Corps. She graduated from Northside High School in Fort Smith and attended Westark College (now University of Arkansas Fort Smith) before entering the college for officer training in 1990. She was commissioned as a Follower of Jesus in 1992.

The Daniels have two children. Their daughter, Brittney, 11, and son, Andrew, 4.

The Daniels are coming to Stillwater from Fort Smith, Ark., where Robert has worked the last seven years for the Arkansas Department of Human Services and Lannette has worked for The Salvation Army in various roles.

“We are excited about our new life in Stillwater,” said Lannette. “We look forward to helping the local residents and giving them a hand-up — not a hand-out. We can help the people but they ultimately must be willing to help themselves and want to make life better for themselves.”

Their official public welcome service will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Chapel, 1101 S. Lowry.
