Competency hearing set for robbery suspect

Laura Wilson - NewsPress

A preliminary hearing for a man accused of armed robbery was reset so the defendant could receive a competency evaluation.

The hearing was set Tuesday afternoon for Jarom Henry Uppendahl, 28, who is charged with robbing Razook’s Drug and Family Pharmacy on June 11. He is alleged to have entered the pharmacy and told employees to give him some narcotics, threatening them with a weapon he said was in his pocket. The charge was filed in Payne County District Court on June 13.

Tuesday, Special Judge Phillip Corley said he had received a document from Payne County Jail indicating that officials had concerns about Uppendahl’s competency, so the court is ordering a competency evaluation to be conducted by Edwin Fair.

The matter was reset for Aug. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
