New athletic director

School board set to hire A.D., vice principal and consider staff and teacher contracts

The Stillwater Board of Education could hire a new athletic director tonight and accept the resignation of a 10-year administrator.

During a special session scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., the school board is slated to approve a contract with Butch Lingenfelter as the athletic director. Lingenfelter would replace Mike Simpson, who has accepted a job with Ponca City schools.

The board also will consider labor agreements with the support staff and teachers.

According to the agenda posted Monday afternoon, Lingenfelter has a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and 31 years of experience. He began work Monday.

The board also is set to approve the hiring of Jessica Hentges as assistant principal at Stillwater Junior High School. The agenda states Hentges has a master’s from Texas Women’s University, five years of experience and that she started work Aug. 5.

Also listed among personnel actions for the special session is the resignation of Diana Leggett, assistant superintendent for learning. Leggett was hired in Stillwater on Jan. 6, 1997. Leggett’s resignation would be effective Sept. 1.

Other resignations to be considered are from Mahlon Erickson, junior high science teacher, Shelley Mitchell, high school science teacher, and Pam Norris, Richmond Elementary fifth grade teacher. Those resignations would be effective May 22.

The special session will be followed by the board’s monthly business meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Both meetings will be in the Board of Education Building, 314 S. Lewis.

During the business meeting, the board could approve two contracts for the football stadium — for landscape and irrigation and the track surface — as well as a color scheme for the facility.
