School supplies for foster families

DHS holds back-to-school supply drive for Payne, Noble, Pawnee counties

Summer is coming to an end, and school is just around the corner.

To help families who help area children, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services is collecting school supplies for foster children and their families.

This special back-to-school supply drive will benefit foster children in Payne, Pawnee and Noble counties. A box can be found in each county office to drop off necessary school supplies.

Although all school supplies are appreciated, the agency has found the greatest need is backpacks.

“What many people do not realize is that our foster families are not given extra money for back-to-school supplies,” said Lisa Davila, foster care specialist for Payne, Pawnee and Noble counties. “Anyone with children knows how expensive this time of year can be and these families can use a little bit of extra help.”

The back-to-school supply drive begins today. Supplies can be dropped off at the Payne County DHS office in Stillwater, 711 E. Krayler, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.; the Noble County DHS office in Perry, 205 15th; or the Pawnee DHS office, 501 Fifth.
