Crash kills SHS students

Casey Gosnell and Scott Saunders of Stillwater die when car hits tree in Oklahoma City

Two Stillwater teens were killed Sunday night or Monday morning when their car wrecked in northwest Oklahoma City.

Casey Allyn Gosnell, 17, and Scott Ray Saunders, 17, died when the 2007 Honda Civic left the road just north of Morgan Road and Northwest 150th and hit a large tree, said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight.

Oklahoma City police received a call shortly before 4:30 a.m. Monday about the wreckage from someone who spotted it, Knight said, so “we don’t know exactly when it happened.”

Because no one saw the crash, he said, the police conducted a helicopter search to make sure no one had been injured and left the scene. Gosnell and Saunders were both killed by the impact, he added.

Their vehicle was going north on Morgan Road at “a very high rate of speed,” Knight said. “Speed was the main contributor to the crash.”

Gosnell, the daughter of Tom and Evelyn Gosnell, would have been a senior at Stillwater High School. Saunders is the son of Ella Saunders and Ray Clapp, according to information from Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home.

Attempts to reach the parents of the two teens were unsuccessful Tuesday.
