Athletic village handoff

City of Stillwater ready to formally abandon streets and utilities

Alaina Zanin

The Stillwater City Council will meet Monday to discuss an ordinance pertaining to the street closings and the abandonment of utilities within and surrounding the Oklahoma State University athletic village site.

City Manager Dan Galloway said the ordinance is on its second reading before the council and, after the legal specifications are met, OSU will take over those neighborhood streets.

“Oklahoma State has completed all of the water and sewer requirements by the city,” Galloway said. “Now the change over of the streets is just a technical process. Hall of Fame, Washington and Knoblock will still be open, it’s just the smaller streets inside that will be closed.”

The council will also discuss and take possible action on an ordinance amending the Stillwater Land Development Code as recommended and passed by the Stillwater Planning Commission in addressing specifications for new telecommunication towers.

The council will also hold a hearing to receive public input about the amendments to the Land Development Code.

The council will take action on the acceptance of the reconstruction of Sunrise Street from Skyline to Jardot. The road was rated on the Pavement Condition Index as a 35. Total reconstruction versus repair or maintenance is typically indicated for pavements with a PCI below 40. The estimated cost for the project is $231,000 for concrete paving and $295,500 for asphalt paving. Currently, the funds budgeted for the Public Works Construction projects are $369,373.

Also, on the consent docket is the approval of construction easements for the 12th Avenue project and the approval of the design contract for Adams Street Community Development Block Grant sewer project.

Additionally, other items on the consent docket that the council will take action on are the approval of the 2008-9 city manager employment agreement, and the release of mortgages for some Homebuyer Assistance Program recipients.

Also, the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitors Bureau will present quarterly reports.

The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room at the Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis. The meeting will be televised on cable channel 23.

Agendas can be found at the Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S. Duck, or the city’s Web page, www.stillwater.org.ꆱ
