Hearing for city shooting delayed

• Judge says two suspects can afford attorney

Preliminary hearings were continued Wednesday for two men accused of firing shots into a Stillwater apartment in May.

Michael Eugene Jackson Jr., 21, and Clayton Haskell Langner, 21, both appeared in Payne County District Court before Special District Judge Phillip Corley. Both have been charged with shooting with intent to kill.

At the request of Assistant District Attorney Tom Lee, Corley continued each defendant’s preliminary hearing until July 30. Lee cited the unavailability of a witness in moving for a continuance.

The first Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper to arrive on the scene is currently out of state, he told the NewsPress later.

The shootings occurred on May 22 at Applecreek Apartments on North Perkins. Police found multiple gunshot holes through windows and doors of an apartment in building P, along with multiple 9mm shell casings and .22-caliber shell casings at the scene.

Neither Jackson nor Langner is in custody, each having posted $75,000 bond. Each was represented by a court-appointed attorney, but Corley told them that if they were able to post a $75,000 bond, they were also able to hire an attorney.

Charges against a third man, Joshua Derrick Hancock, 19, were dismissed without prejudice in May.
