Law Day winners listed

NewsPress Staff

Each year, there is a student contest held in conjunction with Law Day, which is officially May 1, sponsored at the state level by the Oklahoma Bar Association and locally by the Payne County Bar Association. “Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy” was this year’s student contest theme.

Joy Rong, a student at Covenant Community School, won first place in the third grade collage contest at state. Winners of both the state and local contest were recognized during an Honor’s Docket at the Payne County Courthouse May 3 with the Honorable Donald L. Worthington presiding over the ceremony.

The R.L. Hert Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Courtney Bayhylle at the Honor’s Docket ceremony by the Payne County Bar Association. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of Payne County in memory of former District Judge R.L. Hert.

Sheriff Carl Hiner was presented with the Liberty Bell Award during the Honor’s Docket ceremony for his distinguished service to the legal community.
