County seeks aid for roads

• Commission asks conservation service for rock

Sean Hubbard - NewsPress

It wasn’t the wrong paper work. It was the wrong paper.

Last week’s Payne County Commission meeting saw District 3 Commissioner Jim Arthur file for assistance from the Natural Resources Conservation Service for rock to put along county roads threatened by washouts. That was a countywide request, said Bill Deering, district 1 commissioner, but it was on a district 3 letterhead.

Deering added that he is turning in the same request during Monday morning’s meeting, but this time, with a district 1 letter head, so that he doesn’t get left out. Once the correct paper is submitted, the county will receive rock from the NRCS to place along the washout areas.

The commission will also receive a county road action report, which is believed to be a report on the condition of roads and bridges throughout the county.

Several renewal contracts have made this week’s agenda. April Bagwell, first deputy to district 2, said that all the contracts are a fiscal year renewal, and that no rates have been changed for the following: Hickerson Mechanical, Unifirst, Thyssenkrupp Elevator, Western Mechanical, Fountain Square Cleaners, and Industrial Chemist.

While these contracts will remain the same, the commission will decide on several other contracts for juvenile detention services that will change.

The first comes from Beckham County Regional Juvenile Detention Center. A contract with Craig County and Muskogee Youth Services will also be addressed. These contracts are for the transportation and care of juveniles.

Finally, the commission will evaluate bids opened last week for election board ballots and materials, and a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck from the Perkins Fire Department.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the Administration Building, 315 W. Sixth Ave.
