Beat erosion before it starts

Stillwater’s city stormwater management coordinator will host three seminars

With spring rains approaching, the city of Stillwater is set to host an erosion and sediment control seminar beginning Thursday.

The seminar will given by David Claytor, stormwater program coordinator for the city, and cover the requirements of chapter 9 of the city’s code — stormwater management and earth change requirements.

Two dates with three times are scheduled. Thursday seminars will be held from 7-8 a.m., noon-1 p.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m. in room 2073 of the Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis. The seminar will offered in the same location April 3, from 7-8 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon and 4-5 p.m.

According to Claytor, the seminar will cover several erosion and sediment control best management practices that have been proven to work in Oklahoma. The city hosted a similar seminar last year, and extended the times this year to accommodate varying schedules.

Stillwater is an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality phase two community.

The city is required by federal regulations to administer a program that will effectively reduce pollutants in stormwater runoff from construction site activity.
