On March 19, the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, 30 people joined the Wednesday Peace Vigil to commemorate the American and Iraqi casualties of the war. Nearly 4,000 American troops have died and many, many more wounded. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died and millions are now internal or external refugees. In addition, nearly everyone in the United States has been affected due to the slowing economy and especially due to the lack of resources for investing in health care, clean energy, education and jobs. The Stillwater Peace Vigil began in the fall of 2005 and continues every Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the courthouse, Sixth and Husband.
