Michael Moore’s ‘Sicko’

“Experience declares that man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for I can apply no milder term to the general prey of the rich on the poor.” — Thomas Jefferson, 1787.

In other words, Jefferson is saying it is common in our culture for the very rich to become addicted to “devouring and preying” on their own kind.

They seem to have absorbed the pernicious message from the cultural air they breathe, namely, a mindless addiction to wealth.

Private for-profit health insurance and the pharmaceutical industries, as Michael Moore documents in “Sicko,” are cases in point.

The Stillwater League of Women Voters is to be applauded for bringing this important documentary to Stillwater. Please consider several showings; there are people who were not able or did not know about its first showing. There were less than 50 people in attendance.

Canadians have nothing but praise for “Sicko.” It confirms for them that their single-payer universal health care is light years ahead of a profit-oriented one. It covers everyone from birth to death at half the cost per capita annually that Americans pay after shamefully leaving out 50 million souls.

When Americans go rabid/ballistic about “socialized medicine,” Moore correctly says, “Socialized medicine is a stupid term and should be replaced by Christianized medicine.”

Moore is in the same league with Moses and Martin Luther King. But can brainwashed Americans see or hear anything that is not already in their minds?
