Thanks for the memories?

On a dark morning two weeks ago at about 5:45 a.m., I had a bad fall where the sidewalk crosses the bridge on the north end of Boomer Lake. Due to the lack of lighting on the bridge proper, I could not see that the bridge was an inch or so higher than the sidewalk.

To coin a term both figuratively and literally, I now call the bridge “the bloody bridge.”

Thankfully, I have recovered and would like to thank the following good people for helping that morning:

Birne Binegar, who heard my call for help, walked with me for over a mile back to my apartment, and suggested that I seek medical attention.

The nurse at the Warren Clinic who cleaned me up in preparation for the doctor.

Turns out, the nurse was one of my wife’s former students at Will Rogers Elementary School.

The doctor who stitched me up. Turns out, his dad was my graduate assistant while he was working on an M.S. degree in Accounting in the early 1970s.

I enjoyed reminiscing with him about his dad, although the memories were not worth the fall!

I would also like to thank Tom Dugger for his prompt response in having the city repair the uneven surface. Who knows? I may get the courage to run there again.

The City of Stillwater slogan, “citizens helping citizens” could not be more appropriate.
