Helen Lorene (Barger) Dumas

Helen Lorene (Barger) Dumas, 86, of Rome, Ga., died on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 in Rome. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Strode Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Allen D. Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday at Strode Funeral Home. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born April 7, 1922 in Perkins to William Barger and Marjorie (Cartwright) Barger. She married Melvin Oscar Dumas on May 18, 1940 in Stillwater. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1989. She was a member of the Laurel Heights United Methodist Church, San Antonio where she had been a long time resident until recently.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Floyd Barger and George Barger.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Wayne Dumas and his wife Cheryl of Palo Alto, Calif., and Michael Melvin Dumas and his wife Diana of Rome; two daughters, Lynda Kaye Kerouac and her husband Lee of Pensacola, Fla., and Patricia Ann Ours and her husband Will of Marksville, La.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary A. Crenshaw of San Antonio.
